How do you fix a loose power pin in a laptop (where the cord plugs in)?

My laptop has a loose pin where the laptop power cord goes in. How do i fix this problem? The laptop wont start because the battery wont charge because the power cord doesnt provide power to the laptop. It is a HP ze4125 and was bought in 2002 (i think).

It depends on what is broken.  If it's the middle pin, a new jack is needed, because that pin can't be repaired.  If it's a jack that's surface mounted to a PCB, the solder connections may have been broken and re-soldering will fix it.

Replacement jacks for most laptops are available on eBay now.
You can also go through an electronics supply once you know the size.
They usually look like this.

If the PC Board is badly broken where the jack goes the way to fix that is to solder wires to the copper strips that used to go to the jack and install a panel mount jack in the laptop chassis.
(Panel mount is the kind that goes in the hole and is held in place with a threaded nut.)
Looks like this one (but you not want a closed shunt type).

THis happend to me on my Dell Inspiron 5150.  I ended up buying a new motherboard on ebay.  Also, you might try plugging the ac power supply into a different outlet than what you are currently using or a different building all together to see if that supplies a charge or even powers up the laptop without the battery in it.

Let us know how it goes!
