Question

Need installation drivers for a HP Pavilion dv1000

Asked by: charlestexas2000

Needed! basic drivers for this HP-Pavilion
purchased in 2004 at an AAFES (Army Airforce
Exchange service) facility in Iraq. Now we
are here again and need a little help. I have borrowed a HP Driver CD, #397451-001, for an HP pavilion that is only six months old.
I am not positive if there will be any corruption or conflicts. I did match one driver to the
hardware listed  "Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC". The
computer caught a virus and has had windows
reinstalled.  The Driver CD is not at this
location (iraq) U.S. soldier.  limited access
to the internet-->  No personnal computers
can be connected to it "https". Thumb drives
are! We can use Proxify.com and at the same
time we are limited by it.
On the divice manager, it is listing yellow question marks
under "other devices". They are as follows:
? "Mass Storage Controller",
? "Multimedia Audio Controller",
? "Network Controller",
? "PCI Modem",
? "Video controller",
? "Video Contoller (VGA Compatible).
I am unsure whether or not I need drivers for
more components than the ones listed. I need
the name of each device and a link, if
possible, of where I can download each driver.
A complete package of all the drivers will not
be possible because there is a limitation to
the size of downloads.

I know the mistake was
made by not running Sisofware SANDRA before
reinstalation, but this is what I have to work
with. Thanks!

P.S. I have been a member for over two years
waiting for a moment like this. I have asked
very few questions  in the past. So a little
effort on this will be greatly appreciated.

Below is a report of the computer after a windows installation without any of the basic drivers which should be helpful for an accurate solution.

Hi charlestexas2000,

Wow, you really did save up for this Q didnt you :)

Here is the page for drivers for that laptop -> http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=435618&lang=en#

Generally, you want to try to run a driver for each section - generally, if it doesn't show up in device manager, it isn't that important

First, do NOT use a recent HP driver's CD from a different model !!

The link redseatechnolgies gave you should provide all of the driver downloads you need.

The process for re-installing XP is as follows:

(1)  Install XP

(2)  Install Service Pack 2 (if you don't have a copy, you can download it from Microsoft and burn it to a CD => http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en)   Note:  The reason I suggest this before installing additional drivers is that SP2 "knows" about a lot more hardware than the original XP ... so many drivers may not be required.

(3)  Now install drivers as needed, in this order:

    (a)  Chipset drivers
    (b)  Network driver
    (c)  Video driver
    (d)  Sound driver
    (e)  Modem driver

Note that all may not be required ... check Device Manager after the SP2 update to see what's required; and be sure and do the chipset drivers first if they're needed.
