Laptop damaged by sand in Iraq desert - need article explaining

Client brought in HP laptop that had been with her husband in Iraq desert for two years. Unbelieveable amount of sand inside. Sand had worked its way into slots that hold keyboard in place, and the grit just destroyed the tight fit, as well as the way other components fit. I advised replacing.
Now she's taking me to small claims court for $2300 because her laptop sound is not working.

I need an article to take to court explaining how the desert can destroy a laptop, without a tech even touching it.

Thanks again.

it came in full of viruses, i ghost the hdd, restored to factory settings, and reloaded personal data. i had no problems with it other than the sand grinding everything. i told her to get a pcmcia sound card for the sound issue and it would be fine. my wife says she's crazy, so i will check out your links and get back.

thank you
I agree with your wife.  She should be glad it is working at all and her husband still has it.  My brother's stuff seems to "disappear" real easy.

Just to help as you look at the links the main page or link I provided (to the toughbookindia site) seemed to have stats on the increase in hardware issues in that type of environment.  There was a pdf summary and some links on the right side that I did not explore but seemed to have more details and specifics.  Of course the facts and accuracy could be questionable but any judge with common sense should not have a problem seeing your point.

OJ did go free though so you never know.
