Cursor randomly "jumps" when typing!

I have a very annoying problem when typing on this laptop.  The cursor randomly jumps to another line and I find myself typing in the middle of another sentence.  It appears to be completely random.  It doesnt jump to a particular place (like the top left for example) also it doesnt just happen in one application.  It might happen in email, wordpad, notepad, Word, etc.  Can anyone help?

After a little more research and trial and error, I do believe this is related to my wrists bumping the touchpad.  This sends the cursor to whereever the mouse pointer is located.  On my HP laptop, I have a little button that allows me to temp cut off the touchpad.  Unfortunately, the Toshiba doesnt have this feature.  Does anyone know of a simple utility that would allow me to temp cut off the touchpad...preferably by hitting some hot key combination?

i don't believe there is, you could just use a USB mouse, either wired or wireless. that would be you best bet
I also have a toshiba and have the same issue, but I am getting better at not hitting it I also look more often at the screen to make sure it is alright.
or you could get a USB keyboard instead, then you could even have the whole keyboard..

Look in the control panel for 'mouse', and poke around everywhere. See if you find it there.

thanks for all of the input.  F9 doesnt work for me but Im going to check my other Function keys.  I'll also look into the utility link posted and report back!
COMPFIXER: you nailed it.  I completely forgot that I was on my HP laptop when I tried your suggestion.  F9 works exactly as you said on my TOSHIBA...lol
Im going to give compfixer the majority (400/500) points because you nailed it and replied first.  I'm also giving Asidu 100 points to take time to post a relevant "fix" as well.
Thanks for taking the time to respond!  Namaste!
