Greetings:
johnb: thanks for the idea... what I ultimately did was go directly to realtek's site
for the very latest of their drivers.
Main Topics
Browse All Topics I reinstalled Windows on a Toshiba Satellite A105-4014. Everything went fine, all devices in Device manager are fine and working. Sound is good, but neither the built-in condenser mike nor a decent labtec external mike are recognized by Windows Sound Recorder, or Skype.
I installed the latest Realtek driver from Toshiba's site and Driver Agent. I also "removed" the sound device from dev mgr, rebooted and let it re-discover it, to no avail.
Anyone have any ideas about what I can do to have Skype properly recognize a microphone?
Toshiba is a Centrino with 1 gig RAM, 100 gig HDD, Windows XP Pro

In this case, what i will do is get a headset with microphone and test out by go to Start > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound recorder , then will try to use the microphone to talk / record for testing. (This is to check whether the problem is coming from the microphone or the skype, if working fine for the testing, ok, then that should be some setting issue under skype but not from microphone)
Under skype got some setting with the microphone .... go and take a look as well ....

In the device manager>View>Check "Show hidden devices">Non plug and play drivers. Anything listed there as being problematic?
