Browse All TopicsI working on a Dell Vostro 1000 laptop running Vista basic. I booted the system and ran the diagnostic pre-boot utility and receive a error message saying:
"Error Code 0142
Message Error Code 2000-0142
Msg:Unit 0 Drive self test failed Status byte=79
I researched the error code on Google and most of the comment say the hard drive needs to be replaced. This laptop belong to a person with no critical data on the drive.

Remove the hard drive out and check what vendor of hard drive, then go manufacturing site and download diagnostic tool, and test the drive. Is that drive make noise?
Also, if data is not important, then format and reinstall OS.
