Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI have a Dell Inspiron 1000 laptop computer. While attempting to POST the screem displays " Battery recalibration warning, your battery needs to be recalibrated.". It then gives me two options to either boot to the operating system or to run the battery recalibration utility. I have followed the prompts and run the battery recalibration utility four times and it contiues to give this message at POST. If I unplug the power cable it will continue to run on the battery.

The recalibration process involves fully discharging the battery - I assume that's what you have done, yes?
According to Dell there are two ways to recalibrate (see p16&17 of the quick reference guide, here:http://support.dell.c om/support /edocs/sys tems/lat11 0l/ multlan g/qrg/emf2 /X7598A00. pdf)
Which one have you used?
If you have tried one, you might try the other.
The recalibration process resets values in the systems NVRAM that relate to the battery parameters at full charge and full discharge. If the system is not 'remembering' these there may be something wrong with the NVRAM or the NVRAM setting process.
These functions are handled by the system's BIOS, so you might want to check to see if your BIOS is up to date - the most recent BIOS for your model is version 08, I believe, and it can be found here:
