Browse All TopicsHi,
I have a paritcular nasty virus/trojan on my notebook and want to restore back to the factory settings. My notebook has windows on c:, a recovery partition and one other partition i store all my documents on.
When I choose to restore to factory on bootup will I need the Vista DVD that came with my notebook? I have managed to lose it.
Also, if I choose this option will it format my partition with my documents on it or will it just clear out the windows partition?
Thanks!

The DVD can be retrieved from dell. There website is a little awkward, but you can get all the resources. Factory default usually includes the original partition table, so if you are still using the same hard drive, it will wipe that second partition as well (I'm not sure what it will do if you have a bigger hard drive) I would use something like Acronis or gparted (free) to copy the data partition to separate drive or DVD if it will fit. Acronis True image can compress the partition if you need to make it smaller.
