Browse All TopicsHello,
I have discovered that on my AW11S Vaio (p8400 processor), sony has not enabled the Hardware virtualization. but the problem is that I have never seen before such a poor featured BIOS and the advanced Tab is completly empty in it!!
This featured is one of the most important in order to use the XP mode in W7 and for VPC7 which is built-in and much more efficient that VPC2007 (in fact VPC2007 is not fully compatible and it is by eg impossible to drag a file FROM any virtual machine to W7)
Somebody know how to obtain a new BIOS with this switch present or is there any "side" solution?
Probably ALL the VAIOs will have this BIG ISSUE with W7!!

This is a well-known (and consistently disliked) "feature" of Sony's laptops -- purportedly done to eliminate the threat of hypervisor-based rootkits.

There are several threads on BIOS modifications that will enable VT. This is the simplest, as it's a relatively simple patching utility, although it doesn't mention your specific laptop model (but it looks for a specific code sequence to modify, so it will likely work): http://www.linux.com/commu
Be aware, however, that a bad flash can render your laptop useless -- so proceed with caution !!
