could not find OS specific setup program

Asked by atwhittaker01 in General Laptop

I have Windows Vista on my acer Extensa 4420 and my touchpad and keyboard stop working after I did a Windows Update. Well my touch pad stop working after I intstall an air card-tried to uninstall it but that didn't help. Then my keyboard stop working after I did window updates now they both are not working. They only work when I put the machine in eRecovery mode. Anyway I've tried updating my driver and reinstalling from the acer website but to nothing works. When I try to install the synaptic touch pad from website i get an error-unable to connect to the synaptics pointing device driver and could not find OS specific setup program when i check the hardware, there is nothing listed for touchpad or keyboard as if I don't have one installed. When i go to Device Manager a couple of devices have a yellow caution sign, I have to use the on screen keyboard just to type. I have Windows vista.
