Question

Ghost Image of Lenovo Tablets will not work

Asked by: jhaneke

Hello Experts!

I'm having some difficulties in creating a system image for each line of Lenovo Tablets we are planning on utilizing in our office.  Everytime I try to create a ghost image on a master and ghost that to another tablet it is giving me a TPM error.  I tried contacting Lenovo but to no avail.  There is security software (Lo-jack) on each of the tablets along with biometric security software built in that from what I have been reading is effecting this.  Does anyone have a good method for imaging Lenovo Tablets?  I've never seen such a problem Ghosting machines before.

Thank you very much for your help!

Joe

Load the TMP drive after you image the PC. I know this is a pain, but it is the simplest solution to the issue you are seeing. Here is an article with a decent discussion about your issue. There is another solution but it does not look like it worked for everyone.

Don't load the drivers on your master image. Put it in a folder such as C:\Drivers and edit your sysprep.ini file. You can add as many drivers as you want. One for each model of your Lenovo.

Let me know if you need help modifying sysprep.ini files. It's not complicated but can be confusing if you have never done it.

Thanks for the great information everyone.  Emilgas I would really like to know more about how to go about what you are talking about.  I don't understand that process well enough and typically I've just been ghosting and running NewSID to cover the bases.  I want to develop a sound computer/tablet imaging system.  Always looking to work smarter not harder!   Thanks again and cheers!

Open your sysprep.ini files and look for something similar to this, if it is not there then you can add it. But remember that the only restriction is that hard drive controllers have to be the same otherwise it gets complicated, but still doable

[Unattended]
   OemSkipEula=Yes
   KeepPageFile=0
   TargetPath=\WINDOWS
   UpdateInstalledDrivers=Yes
   DriverSigningPolicy=ignore
   OemPnPDriversPath=Drivers\T60\Chipset;Drivers\T61\Modem;Drivers\T61\NIC;Drivers\Different_Model\Driver;

basically follow that pattern, without any spaces and list all the drivers for different models. Now if the Hard drives controllers are different from one model to another, let's say one model has IDE and the other is SATA then you have to put those in a different section of sysprep.ini file. If that's the case let me know and I'll explain that.

Ok.  So I prepare a base image with all the software I want but do not install any drivers.  Instead, I save the drivers in a seperate folder on the C:\ for example.  Then, I modify the sysprep.ini file to read the drivers it needs from there by continuing/following the pattern listed above.  Does it matter if Windows automatically loads those drivers for devices that it knows?

Windows will load the drivers that it knows, and will look at that driver list one by one for the ones that it doesn't know. What are the the different models of computers being used here? and their Hard Drive controllers?
