Did you get a generic/no name brand battery?
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI recently purchased a Gateway E-155c convertible tablet PC. The battery was non functional so I purchased a replacement battery. The Laptop recognizes that the battery has been inserted and reports the battery's status (%53) but the % never rises and if I unplug the AC adapter the laptop immeadiately powers off. It also will not boot on battery. The led meter on the battery reports better than half full.
I dissasembled the laptop and visually inspected the solder joints and the board for cracks but didnt see any obvious damage. Note: I did also just recently replaced a broken screen on this laptop as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

Thanks splait, That makes sense from what I am seeing. The laptop detects the battery when it is inserted but it seems to not switch correctly. Any idea how I can locate, test, repair that circuit?.
and to answer your question arixsin. It is a noname high capacity battery but I see the same reaction from the OS with the original oem battery as far as the laptop detecting it when it is installed.
the touch screen layer that covers the lcd was cracked. I have since replaced the screen with another lcd/touch screen assembly. As I mentioned earlier, I performed a cursory look at the motherboard and upon intial visual inspection could not indentify and broken solder points nor visible cracks. I am not ruling them out and figure I might need to test connections with a meter. I am just not sure the best way to proceed on that. If I can find where the battery switching circuitry is I would start there.

I take it the laptop you bought was not new.
It sounds like the battery switching circuitry is bad. That circuit is responsible for charging the battery as well as providing power from the battery when the A/C adapter is disconnected.
That circuit can be repaired.
