HP Notebook not starting, CAPS and Scroll Lock lights flashing indefinitely.

HP Pavillion dv6 laptop is not starting when I push "on" button. All lights turn on and the fan starts working, but nothing displays on screen, while CAPS and Scroll Lock lights blink slowly ('on' for 1 second and then 'off' for 3 seconds, repeating indefinitely).

I tried removing the battery and then holding down "on" button for 30 seconds, but it did not help. Also, I installed another compatible RAM module and tried it with both memory slots, but it didn't help either.

The battery is charging when I connect AC power adapter, and the same issue remains if I remove the battery and start HP notebook only with AC adapter connected (CAPS and Scroll Lock lights flashing slowly).

Any help would be much appreciated, with thanks.

Sounds as if it may be the motherboard.  It may be worth your time and money to take it to a local (mom and pop) store. I find that a lot of smaller computer repair shops will apply any diagnostic fees to replacement costs.
Could also be an issue with the screen. If the laptop has an available avg/dvi/hdmi port try plugging a monitor into it and see if you get anything from that.

Hi guys,

I am one of those "mom and pop stores", unfortunately. I tried connecting an external screen, but it did not display anything (even though I also tried Fn-F4 keys several times to transfer the video signal to the external monitor).

I also found googling that it could be the motherboard (or CPU) fault, but I will check those connections to the keyboard and screen, because it may be cheaper to buy another laptop than replace the motherboard, thanks.
