how can I restore a Gateway M-Series (Model SA6) back to its original manufacture default settings?

Hi Everyone,

Recently, I purchased a Gateway M-Series  (Model SA6) laptop from a coworker and good friend.  Since he has a lot of programs and personal data still on this laptop,  I am interested in basically wiping and reloading it.  With this objective in mind, can someone give step by step instructions for restoring a Gateway M-Series  (Model SA6) back to it original or store bought settings?

Any information, advise, and guidance given to this post will be deeply appreciated.  I will look forward to trying out any suggestions given.  I was told there are basically two ways of restoring a laptop back to its original default settings.  The first method is from the hard drive itself by pressing one of the F or Function keys like F2, F10, etc.  And, another method is from a Restore CD which I do not have with this laptop.

In closing, thanks in advance for any attention given to this post.  I will look forward to hearing from someone regarding this concern.

             Thank you.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks so much for the excellent feedback given to this question.  Using the easy to follow instructions given by Gary Case, I was able to accomplish the goal of restoring this laptop back to its original or default factory settings.

With respect to the logistics, I simply carried out the following steps: 1.  Selected Start, then All Programs, then Gateway, then Gateway Recovery Management.  Once this utility was opened, I had two options, one for Backup and one for Restore.  2.  The Restore tab was selected.   Following the selection of Restore, I got a message indicating this process will reboot and restore your system.  Do you want to continue?  When I selected Yes, I got another message indicating all preexisting data will be overwritten on the hard disk drive.  The entire restore process was carried out using a preexisting file image or images on the hard drive itself.  There were not any restore cd's or dvd's required to restore this laptop back to it original factory default settings.

Many thanks once again Gary for being of such great help to me in accomplishing this goal.   You are always so appreciated for your past and continued support in getting me through various desktop and laptop projects.
