With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not?   • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Zip drive install adding additional Floppy drive designator

I have a Windows95 Pentium with a floppy dirve (A:), two harddrives (C: - Master) and (D:-slave) connected to IDE1, a Creative CDROM hooked directly up to a Soundblaster 16 Card and a iomega Zip drive (internal) connected to IDE2 on my motherboard. The Harddrives and Zip drive are auto detected at bootup time.
MY PROBLEM:
My PC does not recognize the zip drive (does not assign a drive letter) and after installing it. then I noticed that Windows device manager (and explorer) shows an additional floppy drive designator icon (B:). If I click on the drive letter, after a moment, it says, "device not ready..." (this happens regardless of whether I have a disk in the A: floppy or not) - The A: floppy works OK.
I have tried removing the device (B:) via the device manager, but when I reboot, the second drive letter always comes back. Note, there are no conflicts, and if I physically remove the Zip drive, the second letter does not appear at bootup and everything is fine.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get my zip a drive letter and at the same time getting rid of the 2nd floppy designator?
