Burned CDs work in CD-ROM but nowhere else

This question is about burning CDs. A little background: My DVD died last week. I had the following done: increased RAM from 64 to 192, had a new DVD installed (they gave me an LG 12X DRD8120BB and assigned it Drive E), had a CD burner installed (RICHO 8X8X32X and they assigned it Drive D). The software is Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4.
I have tried burning 6 CDs (4 from MP3 files, 2 from a music CD). The parameters are:
Speed 1X, Create CD (not Test and Create), Close Session and Close CD.
The CDs are 74 minutes, 650 MB, Kodak CD-R Ultima with InfoGuard Protection System.
The CDs sound perfect and play properly on my CD-ROM. But, in the car and on 5 other CD players, all the CDs either refuse to play at all or play for a few seconds and then skip or stop altogether.
