"...Well, what can we say here... It looks as if on 5 March all AMD processors will undergo another significant price reduction. As we have expected, AMD Athlon 900MHz and lower will be very soon discontinued. Athlon 1.3GHz is most likely to turn up in the end of February or on 5 March together with the price reduction. And Duron 900MHz will hardly appear before the Q2 starts. We dare suppose that the next price reduction will happen in April. Let us explain. Since the planned price drop will take place almost simultaneously with the similar action on Intel’s part (AMD – 5 March, Intel – 4 March), the next price reductions are also very likely to take place simultaneously (Intel is expected to carry out the next "event" on 15 April).
And now let’s compare the prices of the two companies. After the March price drop Pentium III 1GHz will cost $241 and Athlon 1GHz - $170. The same picture can be observed in all other cases: AMD CPUs will be much cheaper than the same products from Intel..."

I did a fairly extensive search and indications are that Intel is bent on keeping it average selling price up. It has been suggested that this is the reason for not opening the FSB speed of the Celeron beyond 66mhz for fear that it would lower its average selling price by competing with the PIII chips. So I think this is a rumor only. I did find some old '98 '99 and I think '00 dated articles with references to Intel Price Cuts. I don't think that is what you are referring are you. No couldn't be.
