Ports Problem

I am experiencing a verrry strange problem. It all started when I began to have modem problems, modem disconnects frequently and not being able to connect through TCP/IP at all. My problem was finally found to be a faulty modem.

I have since replaced the modem. Howver, my computer has been experincing some very strange behaviors. Once I installed the new modem, I wne to Device manager to inspect the properties and details etc. I discoverd it was installed on COM port 3. ,One and two have nothing connected to them.

Question one is why did the modem install on the COMport 3..? Additionally, since I have installed the new modem, my scanner no onger could be found on the SCSI chain. My printer is on the chain and it works but not the scanner. I have attempted to reinstall it several times but to no avail. When I attempt to instal and test l the scanner conections, I get the error message ..Unable to locate NT port driver.". I find this unusual becuse I am running Windows ME.

THis has me totally frustrated..I have attempted just about every diagnostic and correcctive action relating to a problem such as this. This seems to be a problem with the computer not "seeing the" scanner for some reason. Is there ANY ONE that can shed ANY light on this...?
