Switching Hard drives

Ok, I don't know how easy or hard this question is. We have 3 computers in my house. I have been using the one I am on for a long time, And the data in my hard drive is irreplaceable at this moment. But the rest of the computer is old and having problems. I can't get the floppy to work anymore, so I can't even back up the most important files, and there are other problems I won't get into at the moment. I have another computer, with a messed up hard drive, but everything else in the computer is better than what I have now. Can I just switch the hard drive on this computer into the other computer without losing anything on this hard drive? And if i can't just directly connect it is there something I can do to ultimately acheive this goal?
