The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Need advice on upgrading computer for gaming.......

Asked by codecontra in Miscellaneous Hardware, Computer Memory (RAM), Computer Sound Cards

Tags: mpv3c2, drivers, epox

Hi all.  I bought a used computer for my son to do his gaming on.  The specs are as follows:

-     AMD K6-2/500Mhz Processor
-     320mb RAM
-     Epox MPV3C2 motherboard
-     20 MB Maxtor  HD
-     16 bit Soundblaster PCI sound card
-     10mbs Ethernet Card
-     Diamond Stealth Extreme 32mb AGP Video Card

Most of his games ran fine except for his favorite one, Diablo 2 LOD.  It just seems to run very sluggish.  So I went and upgraded the video card to the following:

NVIDIA GeFORCE2 MX / 400 64MB 4X AGP.  I bought it from pcafterhours.com for $59.00.  The box says it is made by CHAINTECH.  Not sure if this is a good one, but the price was right.

Anyway, I installed it and downloaded the newest detonator drivers from NVidia.  Guess what?  Still pretty slow.  Maybe a little bit of an increase, but not what was expected.  I have a Dell PIII 650 Mhz with a 32 Meg Nvidia TNT 2 M64 card and Diablo 2 LOD flies on my system....way faster then on his computer.

So what else can I do?  Some people have told me the processor is the problem.  If so, can I upgrade and what to?  What will my motherboard support?  I guess I could upgrade the processor and the motherboard if necessary, but I can't afford a whole new computer for him at this point.

Thanks for any advice!!!!!!!!!
