Question

Stand by locking up the mouse

Asked by: fabiopb

Hi, folks, can you help me here?

I have a PIII with windows 98 se, 128RAM and a intel's cc820 motherboard. Before I format my HD, wich I did recently, when I put my computer in stand by mode it didn't turn off the coolers.

Now my problem is different: the computer stands by just fine, but when I wake it up the mouse won't work. Does it has something to do with that S1 or S3 power saving systems? Is it a matter of driver? I have a serial Genius mouse on COM1 right now and I use window's default driver. Any clue?

Thank you!

If you are turning the fans off while leaving your computer on it should be locking up.  My proposition is ti turn off all power saving features, leave your computer on all of the time, and only flip the monitor off when you are not using it.  That "big light bulb" is the only thing consuming any nominal amount of power.

This looks like your problem and the resolution to it.

SYMPTOMS
If you enable Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) on your computer, your serial mouse may stop responding after you resume from Standby mode.
RESOLUTION
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To resolve this issue, change the ConfigFlags value to 00 00 01 00 in the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\

To find the ConfigFlags, click Find on the Edit menu, type mouse in the Find what box, and then click Find next.
In each entry you find Mouse, change the ConfigFlags value to 00 00 01 00. Press the F3 key to find the next entry.
Restart the computer.
For example, if a Microsoft IntelliMouse is connected to one of your serial ports, the associated registry entry would be:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\SERENUM\MSH0001\ACPI&*PNP501&0

Value: ConfigFlags
Value data: 00 00 01 00 (Binary Value)
