The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Nikon Digital Camera Problems

Asked by ZyncFinger in Miscellaneous Hardware, Digital Living Hardware

I'm having a frustrating problem with my new Nikon Coolpix 2500 Camera, and so far the tech support guys at Nikon have been of no help at all.

The camera itself works fine.....I've taken plenty of pictures without a problem. The problem arises when I try to transfer the pictures to my computer (Win 2K) via the USB port. I plug the camera in, turn it on, and hit the "transfer" button, but it refuses to transfer the pictures, and the display screen on the camera gives me a "communications error" message. Now....when I plug the camera in and power it on, the little "eject hardware" icon appears in the system tray as it's supposed to. Also, the "Nikon Digital Camera Mass Storage Driver" icon shows up in my device manager under USB devices, but it has one of those yellow exclamation points on it, and the "Properties" sub-screen tells me that the device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the driver (Code 31).

Both USB Root Hub and VIA USB Universal Host Controller icons under USB devices appear A-OK, and the device manager reports both as working properly.

If I go to "My Computer," the camera does not show up as a mass storage device, but my BIOS _does_ recognize it as a mass storage device on bootup.

The Nikon tech support guy suggested I go to VIA's site and download the latest 4-in-1 drivers and the latest USB drivers, which I've done, to no avail.

The USB ports have given me no trouble so far, although I've not used them for anything other than a dinky little webcam before now.

Any thoughts?
