"PRE-BOOT ERROR: Memory Size Decreased"

Hi,

Hi everyone,

I have a Dell Dimension 4200 with Bios Verion A03. I wanted to add memory to my system and added a second memory module. After this action the system wouldn't boot anymore. It takes a long time counting up to the amount of installed memory then hangs or spontaneously reboots.

Taking out the new memory didn't change anything of that behaviour. Looking in the Eventlog in the BIOS Setup Program I see the error: "Pre-Boot Error: memory size decreased". Would it help to reset the NVRAM? How is that done on a Dimension 4200?

Or is it possible that a faulty new momory module busted the existing memory?
The modules I used are of same type and speed.

Does anyone have some advice besides trying with new memory?
