The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. INTEL Pentium 133 works fine, AMD Processors do not!

I have a Giga-Byte GA-5AA Rev 2.2 Motherboard and have run it in the past just fine with the following CPUs:
AMD K6-2/233
AMD K6-2/300
AMD K6-2/500
AMD K6-2/550
(Just happened to upgrade over the years.)
One day, suddenly, it stopped booting up.
I messed with it & messed with it and swapped out every part of it, but could not get it to work.
Finally, I went out & built a new system, and am using the new one now.
Well, I have kids & this machine would be fine for them, so I went back and started messing with it again. Being the kinda person that actually has all kinds of old parts around, I still had the old AMD Processors, that used to work fine.
Well, none of these CPU's will work on that Motherboard.
What is wierd is that I did get an old Intel Pentium 133 to work just fine on the board and after reinstalling Windows 98, it is a pretty good working little machine, when connected to the router for cable service.
Now, I tried to connect all of those other CPU's listed above & none of them work at all.
I am sure that I am setting the jumpers correctly.
It is almost as if the motherboard is not able to run the AMD Processors for some reason.
I would really like to get this machine running with atleast the AMD K6-2/300 CPU on it.

Does anyone have any ideas?
