ATA 133 & 100 Speed

Ive been told that if i put a UATA 133 drive on primary master 1 and ATA 100 the speed will retro to 100, or that if I put an UATA 133 on primary master and the 100 on secondary master 1, that it will also retro to 100.
What will happen if I got a HDD Caddy and put the ATA 100 drive in it and left the UATA drive in as permanent (ie: install it)?
