Your BIOS probably has a limit of 64MB. A BIOS update may be avilable to fix this. I was unable to find much info based on the info you listed other than your board is made by FIC. You may be able to find a BIOS update here: http://www.fic.com.tw/support/motherboard/Default.aspx      You can also check your board specs to find out if the 128MB is supported.

If you don't know the model number of your Motherboard, I suggest downloading and installing Belarc Advisor www.belarc.com/free_download.html

You must be very careful when updating your BIOS. Read the instructions carefully and adhere to them! The update should also tell you exactly what it will do for you, so if it makes no mention of the RAM or any other benefit you'll need, you may not want to bother with it...

Problem... the RAM type is probably not compatible with the MB - "single-sided" vs "double-sided" or it is not of a supported "density". I've seen Kingston  being
recommended as a supplier of RAM. On their site you can find a suitable type of RAM for your system.

Crucial's website should be able to tell you all that you need to know about RAM.

http://www.crucial.com

However I cannot find you m/b on their site. I think you are not quoting the m/b model number correctly. I think you are looking at the chip set rather than the m/b make and model number.

If as already stated you install Belarc advisor you will be able to find out just what you have. It is also available free from Crucial's website page at:

http://www.crucial.com/store/ListModel.Asp?mfr=VIA+Technologies&cat=RAM

Hope that helps.

As a further thought you should at all events avoid a m/b bios upgrade unless you are 1000% sure of what you are doing. If you attempt it with not quite the right upgrade you will trash your m/b irrevocably. It is not something you can correct at a later date.

Is 64mb the amount of RAM you had before the upgrade?  IE you had 64mb and you're putting in a 128mb card?  Sometimes the computer won't recognise the RAM if it is not installed sequentially according to the size.  Try taking out your original memory and putting the new card in that slot and your original memory in the expansion slot.

Did you purchase the wrong kind of RAM?  If you are using DIMM's:  The motherboard might only be able to accept PC100 RAM.  If you accidentally bought PC133 RAM and installed it then your motherboard probably won't be able to see it.   You weren't totally clear with your question, but the way I read it is that you already had 64MB installed and tried to add another 128MB DIMM (and left the 64MB DIMM installed).  If the 128MB DIMM is a PC133, then it's probably just a matter of you installing the wrong type of RAM.  Let me know if this helps.

I've done it before :o)

by: ridPosted on 2003-07-07 at 09:01:30ID: 8870267

PC 133 RAM modules will usually work on a 100MHz bus. If the new RAM is recognized as half its size, the problem is very likely the density/packaging that
doesn't suit the MB.

Are you sure that the 128+64 is all your computer can support?
