The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Cannot enable ACPI support on A7N8X motherboard

Asked by KeithHalstead in Miscellaneous Hardware, Hardware Components

Hi,

I have an Asus A7N8X2.0 motherboard.  I have recently had to reset the CMOS and reinstall XP.  However, I get the error message that the BIOS is not ACPI compliant and I must disable ACPI (by pressing F7 on starting Windows Setup) to be able to proceed with the install.  I have v1005 (ie latest version) of the BIOS and have tried re-flashing (no errors reported).

XP installs OK but will not power off the computer properly on shut down (I get the "it is now safe" message).  Also, in the Device Manager under 'Computer' it says that the IRQ table could not be found.  I am also unable to boot from CD-ROM, despite setting the boot priority list to CDROM, floppy, HDD-0.

Can anyone suggest if there are any BIOS settings I may have overlooked that were reset to default values?  Is there anything I need to disable/enable on any of the advanced settings pages?

The rest of my system is XP2500+, 512MB DDR333 RAM, separate DVD and CDRW, Radeon 9600, Audigy2 soundcard.  Once in XP I can install drivers for the motherboard, soundcard and graphics card and these work fine.  There are no conflicts in device manager.  On booting up the system, when it displays the IRQ list, the last line relates to ACPI Controller and has no entries in the left-hand columns (all other entries do) - I'm not sure if that is normal or not?  There are no errors reported during POST.

Many thanks,
Keith
