The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Motherboard connection pins (PWR, HDD, LED)

Asked by JeffreyGB in Miscellaneous Hardware, Hardware Components

I'm building two computers with PCChips m811 motherboards. The problem I'm having is connecting my cases to the motherboards. The plugs from the case are: 4pin speaker (2 wire - black and yellow), 2 pin power sw (2 wire - white and black), 3 pin power LED (2 wire - black and brown), 2 pin HDD LED (2 wire - white and red), and a 2 pin reset sw (2 wire, both grey).

The mobo pins are labeled as follows:
1: HD LED (positive)                  2: MSG LED [dual color or single color (-)]
3: HD active LED (negative)      4: MSG LED [dual color of single color (+)]
5: Reset Switch                         6: Power Switch
7: Reset Switch                         8: Power Switch
9: Reserved                              10: No pin

Everything fits except for the 3 pin power LED. I'd assume that it would go in the place of the MSG LED, but obviously 3 pins don't fit on a 2 pin connection. What can I do to make this case work with this mobo? I ordered the parts off the internet, so returning them and getting something different isn't really an option. Also, I found this post: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Hardware/Q_20228053.html, and I'm wondering how exactly I'd make something like the second option work. Can I just get a two pin connector and attach the wire from the 3 pin connect to it? Where would I get such a connector and how would I attach the wires?

Thanks in advance!
- Jeffrey
