Are these commercial music CDs or home-brewed music CDs?
What program are you using to open the music CDs?

by: JimbyPosted on 2003-08-01 at 23:59:30ID: 9053354

These are commercial music cds, Im Using Microsoft Windows Media Player 9, I could the problem be related to how the wires are conected to the sound card?

nvm the I there

It's likely not the sound card or cable connection if the first 3 songs are audible.

If you have not tried other music CDs, try that.  It may be one damaged CD.

Otherwise, you should have something installed at Start->Programs->Accessories->Entertainment->CD Player.  I would try this CD player and see if it works in this.  No one I know who has installed WMP9 has been without complaint, so I'd try something else to make sure it's not just a flaky player.

Iv tried both of these, This seems to happen with most CDs, the other Windows CD player has the same problem.

Is this _all_ music CD's or just some?

Some new music CD's have LAME attempts at copy protection.
Some of these CD's are widely known to cause problems in computer CD drives.
The manufacturers of some have been denied the certification to put the official
CD logo on the packaging or disc, since they are not made to the 'official specs'.
Try the CD's in as many PC CD drives as you have access to, as not all drives
exhibit this behavior.

Sounds like a faulty drive, have you tried copying a commercial data CD that is nearly full (Win 2000 CD for instance) to your hard drive, if this fails so far into the copy or seems to be seeking alot then almost definately a drive problem.

by: JimbyPosted on 2003-08-02 at 15:51:19ID: 9055391

I have triedas many CDs in this drive as possible..... Theproblem does not existin ethier of my 2 other computers, I have tried burning an almost full CD onto my hard drive, being as I only have one CDRW I cant burn any other way, Burning Is Fine, and I fear it may be a faulty drive.... But if anyone else has experianced this or knows anything about it, there may be a way around it.

Well I can tell you for a 100% certainty that it is possible to have a CD recorder
that will do what you say.... I had one that was almost just like it.
a Smart and Friendly CD Racer I think it was called ~ 8 years ago or so.
Mine recorded just fine, problem was after 2 months the read capabilities were lost.
I by that time had gained total confidence in the recordings and burned 10 or so MP3
CD's. When I went to get some of them back (After deleting the source files) the first
disk I tried failed, the next and the next I was really angry threw them all away.
Later found out that all the 'Blanks' I thought I recorded were good all along. :(

2 Laser mechanisms one reads the other writes....

If I can fin that one in my junk heap I'll let ya have it ;)

hehe, thnx, but maybe ill pick one up..... Anyone know of an awsome CDRW?? Preferably one that works.... lol

by: snerkelPosted on 2003-08-03 at 00:02:52ID: 9057861

Now a days they (CDRW) are all pretty good and around here the Aopen have a good name. Liton is also a good workhorse at reasonable cost. Think you have just been unlucky with that one, just get a replacement that is within your budget and with a years warranty, as a rule of thumb with stuff like this it is either DOA, fails in first two weeks, or goes on forever.
...

by: JimbyPosted on 2003-08-03 at 00:53:05ID: 9058173

hmm agreed, I know Liton and Aopen is a good make, maybe ill check the Microsoft compatibility page, just to make shure...

by: HoweverCommaPosted on 2003-09-12 at 15:39:23ID: 9349397

I use Aopen with Gigabyte MB's on a regular basis with win 2K Pro, there are
no compatibility issues, another brand that I have used in place of the AOpen
is LG electronics.
