Try deleting mouse & driver from the devmgr (winkey+break key). Try it while booting into safe mode (F5 during boot). Try putting it on the other ps/2 port (ie swap with keybd).

Windows does not detect mouse.
From a cold startup, Windows does not detect mouse(MS wheelmouse optica PS/2). With a reboot, all is working fine. Happens every time...tried update driver(mainboard, mouse), registry edit from MSKB, stumped! Any suggestions would be welcome...T

Nothing has resolved as yet...I have tried your above suggestions, latest 4 in 1 drivers from VIA, all MS updates(Win98SE), safe mode, swap, Searched Microsoft Knowledge Base...tried various fixes from similar problems. I have tried other PS/2 mouse(s), same result. Remain stumped...otherwise system runs perfectly...no errors in Device Manager...no resource conflicts, etc., no BIOS problems I can find...thanx...T
