It is possible but it will require the install of all the new hardware found on the mobo. Make sure you have all your drivers handy to install.

Will not all these requirements come with the new mobo?

On the mobo cd driver software

Hello,

1. First and the foremost, which Operating System do you have? It all boils down to the OS. If you have ME, 2000 & Xp, then the transition will be 90% smooth. If you have anything less, it will happen, but then, you may to face some hiccups.

2. As rightly mentioned by wdr503, I would request you to have all the Driver CDs which accompanied the motherboard handy. If possible, download the latest drivers from the Internet. Also, download the latest BIOS also. Whenever, it identifies a new hardware, you can try to locate the sotfware from the CD.

3. After everything is set and reboots, check up the Device Manager. If there are no Exclamation marks, All Is Well. However, if there any exclamation marks, then check out that device and whether working properly. If yes, also check whether any other driver has been installed for that device. if yes, you can safely delete the entry with exclamation mark. If not, try installing the driver for that device alone.

4. All said and done, A fresh Install is always a Fresh Install. It is worth the time and effort. Quite a lot of un-explained errors, BSODs and lock-ups could be resolved using the fresh installation route. Also, be directly swapping the motherboard, look out for any un-explained, unique or frequently occurring event or problem. Check out whether every device the same as before and the sostware acts normally.

All The Best!!!

What's most likely to happen is that after you changed MoBos and restart the computer it'll will start asking for the new drivers and will reboot several times.

What I'll recomend is delete all of the MoBo integrated Systems like sound card, modem, etc. from control panel =>System=> Hardware.   Then change the video to generic VGA controller and generic monitor.

Change your MoBo and had the CD at hand, poerup the new setting and use the CD as prompted.

If you are using Windows XP you might have to re-activate from M$. The mobo is a major change, so be prepared for that if you are using XP.
