The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Multiple questions about new AMD XP system

Asked by superfooz74 in Miscellaneous Hardware, Hardware Components, Video Cards

Hi everyone, i just built a computer for the first time. (did not know heatsinks were such a pain to install!)
i have multiple issues, that's why i making this worth so many points

1) My PC3200 DDR400 Corsair XMS memory is reading as 333MHZ on POST [twinx 2X 256 (512) 3200LLPT]

2) my video is choppy when playing Unreal Tournament GOTY edition  (not even 2003)
using a Inno3D GeForce FX 5200 128 MB DDR

3) Would like to know if anyone could tell me how to overclock on an ABIT NF7 v2.0
motherboard w/ AMD XP 2600+ processor.

---------------------------------------
system specs

ABIT NF7  v2.0  motherboard ---- w/latest BIOS and chipset driver
Inno3D GeForce FX 5200 128 MB DDR ----- w/latest driver (released 7 days ago)
PC3200 DDR400 Corsair XMS memory  512MB TWINX 3200LLPT   (matched pair of 256)
16X DVD ROM drive
30 GB Maxtor hard drive
500 watt power supply (XCASE is the brand name)
Compaq MV520 15 inch crt monitor - (will replace when i get some money)
Windows XP professional (all updates done including directx 9.0b and service pack 1)

----------------------------------------------
1) The first time i ever turned it on my memory read as DDR400 at POST but got the message:
"CPU is unworkable or has been changed - F1 to setup, or ESC to continue" , I set BIOS fail safe defaults and they worked but memory at 333 now. I tried optimal defaults and fail safe defaults  since but it stays DDR333. I know there must be indivdual setting for this but cannot find it

2) I am using an OLD Compaq MV520 15 inch crt monitor 1024 by 768 res. I thought maybe the refresh rate sucked, so i swapped with my other PC the 15 inch Dell flat panel monitor, did not make a difference. My Unreal Tournament game by default was  640 by 480. I changed the resolution in the game to 800 by 600 and that seemed to help a little. I figure with my memory, processor, and 128 MB video card, it should run this game EXTREMELY easily. also, when i quit the game, the game's music continues to play for about 10 to 20 more seconds while sitting at the desktop ???
does anyone know if maybe directx 9.0 is too new for that game? my video card supports it, but maybe the game does not.

3) i have not tried much with this, because not sure where to start. my goal i guess would be about 2.2 ghz , i am at 1917 mhz now, so that should not be stretching it too far, right?
I did have trouble getting the xp 2600+ to stay under 50 C degrees (only got there after about 20 minutes of playing UT) but after trying 3 different heatsink fan combos  finally found one that keeps it at about 36 - 48 C ( who would have thought CompUsa pro gamer copper would beat a volcano 9, but it does!) so i should have ample cooling
i have nothing but bad things to say about ThermalTake Cool and silent Vocano 9. it was not cool or silent. even at 5,200 RPM , did not cool as well as AMD retail box heatsink and fan, and at that RPM it was so loud my girlfriend cam in from the other room to see what the hell was going on.
Sorry had to let out that frustration.

i will award all points to one or split them up if necessary. might need some help on how to do that though.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide
