desktop suggestions

saw this thread and thought to ask you kinda the same thing but for desktops, as i'm planning to buy one. http://www.experts-exchange.com/Hardware/Q_20806446.html

I have 800CAD to spend, that's less then 600US for a fast box. that I hope will let me run Photoshop with less hasle, and some video editing...
this is my homework.. but i'd apreciate some suggestions.

     Processor: Intel® Pentium® 4 2.6 GHz/800 MHz (HypertThreading), 512 KB L2 cache / or AMD?
     Front-side Bus: 533+MHz
     512 MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM memory, would RDRAM be better?
     Optical Device: NONE
     6+ USB 2.0 Ports [Optional 2+ front]
     Disc Drive: None/3.5-in 1.44 MB floppy drive
     Network Card: PCI/Integrated 10/100 BaseT Ethernet [DLinmk]
     Hard Disc: 7200+rpm 8MB Cache. 60GB => 120GB
     Sound Card: Average/Integrated: [Sound Blaster Live or better]
     Video Card: Average
     Operating system: NONE/Linux
     Additional software: NONE
