First verify with your vendor that they actually sent you a XP2500 CPU, if ok then get ahold of the BIOS setup guide and do the apropriate settings in the bios to tune the system for your processor.
WARNING this might destroy your CPU/MOBO if its infact a 1100GhZ CPU, and therefore check with your vendor about waranty and advice!

Your Athlon 2500+ should be running on a 333Mhz system bus.  It is set to a 200Mhz system bus.  Look in your BIOS to see if the setting is there.  If it isn't, there will be a jumper on your motherboard you can switch (probably want it set to "auto").  Whoever built your system didn't check it or verify the configuration, but it's a fairly simple step.  If you need help setting the system bus speed, contact your manufacturer and ask them how to set it.

By the way, it is a very common thing that the Barton 2500 shows up as an 1100Mhz; it's happened to me a few times when I thought the sys. bus was already set to 333.

zee110, what you need to do is go into your system setup (usually by pressing F10) and in your cpu setup page you need to set the Frequency (FSB) to 166MHz.

Currently it's set to 100MHz.

the XP2500+ is meant to run at 11 x 166MHz, yours is running 11 x 100MHz.

For reference, here's AMD XP cpu's and their settings:

Athlon XP 3200+ Barton 400..  2.200GHz ..... 11.0 x 200
Athlon XP 3000+ Barton 400..  2.100GHz ..... 10.5 x 200
Athlon XP 3000+ Barton 333..  2.167GHz ..... 13.0 x 166
Athlon XP 2800+ Barton 333..  2.083GHz ..... 12.5 x 166
Athlon XP 2800+ 333MHz......  2.250GHz ..... 13.5 x 166
Athlon XP 2700+ 333MHz......  2.167GHz ..... 13.0 x 166
Athlon XP 2600+ 333MHz......  2.083GHz ..... 12.5 x 166
Athlon XP 2600+ 266MHz......  2.13GHz  ..... 16.0 x 133
Athlon XP 2500+ Barton 333..  1.83GHz  ..... 11.0 x 166
Athlon XP 2400+ 266MHz......  2.00GHz  ..... 15.0 x 133
Athlon XP 2200+ 266MHz......  1.80GHz  ..... 13.5 x 133
Athlon XP 2100+ 266MHz......  1.73GHz  ..... 13.0 x 133
Athlon XP 2000+ 266MHz......  1.67GHz  ..... 12.5 x 133
Athlon XP 1900+ 266MHz......  1.60GHz  ..... 12.0 x 133
Athlon XP 1800+ 266MHz......  1.53GHz  ..... 11.5 x 133
Athlon XP 1700+ 266MHz......  1.47GHz  ..... 11.0 x 133
Athlon XP 1600+ 266MHz......  1.40GHz  ..... 10.5 x 133
Athlon XP 1500+ 266MHz......  1.33GHz  ..... 10.0 x 133

Your CPU's front side bus is set to 100MHz, it needs to be set to 166 as Alberta says above, CPU speed is dictated by FSB and Clock Multiplier which is the 11 x 166 figure on Alberta's diagram, all you need to worry about is setting the FSB (or CPU Speed as it is comonly called in the BIOS) to 166MHz.

Depending on your mainboard you will find this setting in the BIOS under CPU PnP Setup, Frequency and Voltage Control or if it is a recent ASUS board then under the Advanced tab and CPU configuration.

If that is not available then read your manual and look for a jumper setting on the mainboard.

by: buckeyes33Posted on 2004-02-24 at 19:27:37ID: 10447405

i wonder that too, even though i should not get the points.

by: StealthMulletPosted on 2004-02-25 at 09:42:23ID: 10452375

I agree entirely Alberta, although mine was perhaps a little more comprehensive and related to his situation more directly you still offered the basic solution first. Is there any way I can give you a share of the points?

by: mattisflonesPosted on 2004-02-25 at 22:14:36ID: 10457689

In my opinion none of you should get the points since you did not ask the questionaire to verify the writing on the CPU/box or contact vendor, in these days of warranty problems thats the first thing to check.. But thats just my $.02..

As for anyone searching this in the future, do a check, even if this is a common thing as the contributors to this string says!

Mattis

Hi Albertabeef, just wanted to put it there as a precaution.. I know that it`s rare to get any problems, and at the rarest to get a blown CPU because of this.
Just had in mind your little remark as to PS-security... right back@ya... :-)
