Question

USB Device Malfunctioned / Not Recognized

Asked by: bick2000

Hi,

I've been having trouble with this problem for quite a bit, and after just living with it, I figured I'd give it a try to fix it. And I know that the people that read these boards are brilliant, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

I have a Toshiba e335 Pocket PC and it worked great for a year. But a few months ago (just in time to be void from any type of warrentee) I stuck it in the cradle and I got an error bubble stating "USB Device had Malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it".

I have read some other postings, including http://www.experts-exchange.com/Hardware/Q_20824773.html but my problem seems to be a little different, in that, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Like a month ago i was using it and I got this error again. So I put it on the shelf. Brought it out last night, plugged it in, worked great. This morning, device not recognized. I don't understand it. As for drivers, all are up to date. And like i said, when it works, works great. So I don't know.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 600m Laptop, running Windows XP Pro. I have multiple USB devices, and this is the only one that causes me the problem, but if I get the error and switch ports, with say, my printer, then my printer gives me the error (even for different ports, I'm not using the same ports over and over... I try the other ones too...)

Attached at the bottom is a list of my IRQ Conflict/Sharing info, in case that could help anyone in helping me! :)

Thanks again everyone, in advance, and I love EE (just waiting for my next paycheck before I get a yearly!).

Bick
