Hi,
I'm trying to install XP Pro on the following system: P4 2.6, AOpen AX4SPEMax motherboard, 1GB DDR SDRAM, NVidia GeForce 128 MB, 2 120GB SATA Seagate Barracudas. My optical drives are an AOpen DVD-RW and a BenQ DVD-ROM.
I've had trouble with installation, and have replaced the board, RAM and AGP (all of which seemed to cause some problems of their own) with new ones. I get the following error at various points of a clean XP installation (after a thorough NTFS format) : mscms.dll is not a valid windows image. I have tried about 8-10 installations now, with various copies of a WinXPPro CD (all of which have worked absolutely fine before and after elsewhere), various optical drives, and swapped the hard disks around.
Occasionally, the setup will complete, but never without errors, and the system isn't stable at all, and it is needed to be rock-solid. I've never come across a fresh install that has taken this long to sort out (still not sorted after several whole days spent on it), and I would appreciate any suggestions.
this question was originally under os/windows xp (unanswered for about 8wks), but i'm not sure where it belongs anymore. i've spent 8.5 hours on this system today - tried a replacement for the following : processor, memory, hdd (sata and ultra ata), case & psu. tried more than 10 configurations and installations. any ideas anyone ????
Thanks,
budchawla
