The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. How do I get my mobo to accept my SATA hdd?

I'm tring to set up an ASUS k8v-se deluxe mobo  with a WDC 250gb SATA hhd.  I didn't recieve a disk or floppy with the drive, so I downloaded it from Western Digital' s sight. I used the WD software to format the disk.  I have tried everythiing I know.  I really don't know how to do this.  I have a dvd/cd burner in the primary ide, a 750mb zip drive in secondary ide, a floppy just for setup, and a 250gb Western Digital Caviar SE Serial ATA hdd in the sata 1.  First I updated the BIOS.   I tried to load WINXP w/sp1.  When loading XP it asked me if I had any raid or scsi controller.  I used the mobo software to put in the sata controller. However after POST The comp. tells me the cotroller has no bios.  When tring to load XP it says there is no device(hhd) and gives me an error.  I don't know what to do.  I was thinking of just buying another WDC 250gb hdd and put it in raid 0.  It won't let me build or erase an array with only one hdd.  I know there is a way to make this work with just one sata drive.
