Will New Hard disk Effect....?

I have Pentium celeron 633 MHz with 256MB RAM.
i am using 20 GB hard disk,but now i want to replace it with new 80 GB(or 60 GB) Hard disk.
i want to know
1)-will new(big)hard disk effect my PC's performance(become slower in speed?)?
2)-one of my friend has told me that "if i make smaller partitions of new hard disk then i will make no effect on my PC's speed".is it true or not?
3)-will motherboard of my PC support new hard disk or not?How Can check(know)?
Please help me as early as possible.
