The option to change your SATA chipset should be under something like "'Integrated Peripherals" in your BIOS.
'Serial ATA Function' should have 'BASE' next to it (this is what it looks like in my BIOS anyway - I have the Sil 3112 chipset as well).
You can get the very latest drivers from Silicone Image, from here:
http://www.siliconimage.co
Type 'drivers' in the search box. In the new window that opens, click the 'Downloads' folder, then 'Drivers'. Next click on 'Sil3x12', then finally click on
"SiI3x12: Serial ATA (SATA) Windows IDE Driver - Released".
On the right-hand side there is a link to a zip file (3112A_x86_win_idvr-11052_
I oppoligise for the long list of instructions, but links to their files/pages don't last long! :o)
Hope this helps! :o)

Make sure that the SATA chipset is set to BASE mode in the BIOS, and not RAID mode.
Also, ensure that the disk is connected to the first SATA port on the motherboard.
One more thing, are you powering the SATA disk with a molex connector, or the proper SATA power connector?
(I remember that the maxtor drives have both connections).
Try unplugging all your optical drives except the DVD-rom on one IDE cable then try installing.
