Browse All TopicsI recently purchased a new 200GB Maxtor HD to use for Video storage in my workstation to replace an existing Seagate 30GB HD. Disconnecting the DVD drive, I connected the drive as the Primary Slave. On reboot a message appears:
"Pri Slave Drive - ATAPI Incompatible"
"Press F1 to resume"
On the following screen there is no listing for the drive as the Primary Slave.
Going into the BIOS settings for the Mainboard the drive lists as:
Pri Slave: USER 137.4GB (Size) 4128 (Cyls) 255 (Head)
When Windows 2000 boots the drive is visible but only 128GB of the 200GB. I have been able to partition and utilize the drive but transfer to the drive seems painfully slow.
The drive is ATA133, but the vendor told me that it would be supported under ATA 100 (which my mainboard is).
Can my mainboard support the full 200GB drive?
How can the error message on boot be removed and the drive (or part of it) appear correctly in the bios listing?
What software utility can I use to gauge the performance of the drive read/writing data?
If an ATA133 PCI controller is required to support the drive, what do you recommend?
(not really wanting to go down this path, as I have 5 PCI slots and they are currently all populated).
OS: Window 2000 sp4
Mainboard: Gigabyte 6VXDC7 (dual socket 370)
Ram: 512MB
Processor: PIII 1Ghz (x2)
IDE interfaces: ATA100 x2
Current devices:
Pri Master: Seagate 20GB
Pri Slave: Maxtor 200GB - Generating error (previously pioneer DVD drive)
Sec Master: Seagate 30GB
Sec Slave: TDK CDWriter
