Hdd bootup

Asked by GarethBruce in Miscellaneous Hardware

I have a Compaq Deskpro 6000 and the hdd went weird, all of a sudden i went from having c: d and e: t0 having a full a: toZ of drives, of which my CD Rom was not included.

No problem I thought ! and then went to restorte using a ghost image.  WHen I insert any floppy (propr t orestoring from CD) the pc just beeps and beeps as if it is trying to read the floppy.   I left this for 10-15 mins in case the mbr was damaged or something but I cant load from floppy ( yes this is correct in BIOS and the floppy disk is working)

Next i tried just booting from c:\ and it says "invalid disk"

If i remove teh IDE cable from the HDD and motherboard  the pc boots OK with my floppy

What do you think could be causing this?  I'm really stumped Start Free Trial
