Browse All TopicsI have recently bought a new PC which has the Ati all in Wonder card fitted ( Ati Radeon 9200 series.)
I would like to be able to play some of my old VHS video tapes through this set up, record them to my HDD ( 200gig) and then edit and save to DVD.
I have the Scart to Phono lead for output from my Panasonic VCR and the purple ATI Phono to S-V lead.
My problem is when I connect it up I get no picture on the PC. Other functions of the all in wonder work ok ie. TV
I can’t seem to find any reference to what settings I should use in the help files or the .pdf user guide on the ATi CD. In fact I can find no references at all to carrying out this task.
I would be grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction to solve this problem.
I have an Athalon AMD 64 3200+ 1 gig of ram and a 200gig HDD Monitor is a Dell 17” tft. OS Windows XP
Thanks Dave.

Here is what I am using for video input on my system.

If you have connected everything up right, download a piece of software to emulate a TV screen on your SVGA monitor. I used iVCR because I could get it free, but there are many others available. Now I was using a Avermedia video capture card, as it is flawless, but I can't say about the ATI -- all in wonderless. I've heard comments that it is dear to set up. However, the principle is that you must run some software to take the NTSC or RCA-jack input and convert it to a TV screen. The best way to do this is to get software that runs a TV screen emulation on your monitor, like iVCR or iuVCR.
Does the cable that comes with the All-In-Wonder have 2 RCA(or S-Video) jacks on it? If there is only one then it only allows for video out. If there are 2 then you may need to go to www.ati.com and download the latest drivers.
Normally, you will need to select which of the three inputs on the All-In-Wonder you want to use.
(TV Tuner)
(Composite input)
(S-Video Input.)
The individual apps you use to record the video to your hard disk will allow you to select one of the above.
The All-In-Wonder should also include software to do basic recording in the "ATI Multimedia Center" sub menu of the start menu.
To expand on Timo's answer:
The TV-tuner application IS the MMC app for watching/recording ANY of the AiW video inputs. Within the tuner application, there is a button (and a right-click menu option) to select S-V as the input source. When you do that, you should immediately see your incoming video stream from the VCR.
Then you just click the 'record' button, as if you were recording off of TV. You can even timeshift/etc., just like the normal TV PVR functionality. Note that in the TV Tuner options you'll want/need to set the default recording options, as to how the file is named, and what quality level recording you want to perform.
If you need a specific walkthrough, let me know, and I can take you step by step through the TV app (I have it on screen on my HTPC right now!).

Thanks.
That is more or less what I have tried. Ie;
I have the input set at S-V and I am trying to use the TV-tuner application. I had expected to see the VCR input straight away but I only get a black screen.
I have scart from the VCR to three phono (coded red, white, yellow) into the purple ATi connecter which in turn is connected to the card.
There is not much room for an error there.
You have seemed to have confirmed that I am doing the right thing, I was thinking maybe it was not the TV-tuner function that I should be using.
Later today I will check the cables etc & try again.
Thanks to all for your suggestions.
After further testing I have found that if I connect two phono leads from ‘Audio Out ‘on the Panasonic VCR to the Ati purple box I get the audio from the tape on the pc ok. But I get no sound or video (not even white noise) with the scart to phono lead.
It looks as though this Scart / phono lead is suspect I will try and find what the pin configuration should be and do a continuity test.
Unfortunatley there is no phono ‘video out’ on the VCR.

Sounds like you need a program to allow you to view the input.
I use Winfast on my system to watch and save the video input.
