System Specs: Asus K8VSE Deluxe Mobo, Athlon 64 3200 processor, 512mb DDR400, Antec TruePower 430w ps, ATI Radeon 9600XT 256mb Graphics Card, SB Audigy 2 Platinum Sound....
I pulled everything out of my case ie, hard drive, cd/dvd rom, cd burner, also pulled all expansion cards out. Removed old mobo and installed new mobo (K8VSE Deluxe). Processor and DDR was installed onto mobo prior to installing mobo into case. After installing new mobo, I installed everything back to the mobo. Double checked all wires and cables (power & data). Everything was hooked up correctly. I hooked up my monitor and connected the power cord. The power cord is connected to a power strip which was turned off. I turned on the power strip and suddenly fire flew from my power supply. I didn't even get a chance to press the "on" button on front of the case.
Can anyone explain why "fire flew" from my ps before powering up the computer? What could have caused this?
After the smoke cleared, I began removing everything from the case and mobo and I was also re-checking my work as I unhooked everything. Everything was hooked up correctly. Got down to mobo (processor and ddr400 still in place) and began inspecting for burnt spots, arcing, etc but everything looked fine. I then removed the mobo from the case and inspected the backside and everything looks fine.
What else should I look for as far as damage to the mobo, processor etc?
What are the chances that the mobo, processor etc are all fine? Any recommendations on how to prevent this from happening again?
