Hi johnwood,

WinXP isn't able of showing this. There are a lot of tools that do this for you:

EVEREST Home Edition <= Free for personal use
http://www.lavalys.com/index.php?page=product&view=1

Anything above 50 degrees celcius should be treated with care, but that's not even near the maximum a processor can go. They'll live upto around 90 degrees.

Greetings,

LucF

Most modern motherboards have a temperature sensor that can be read by the BIOS or other programs.  You can take your pick of Everest, MotherboardMonitor, or HMonitor.

Everest
http://www.lavalys.com/index.php?page=product&view=1&subpage=5

The temperature range will depend on the cpu you have, and AMDs in general run hotter than Intels.  A P4 can range from 100 - 130F, depending on whether it is idle or at full bore.  Athlons can vary from 120 - 150F in normal running from idle to full.  All this will depend on the fan/heatsink you use for the cpu and how well you ventilate your case.

You can find it in BIOS - Off the top of my head I think it's under Performance

OR

Pick up the latest version of Sandra

Sandra will tell you about everything you care or care not to know about your pc.

Thanks a lot for all your suggestions.
However, I really don't want to use a software for that......So, can I open something to show the temprature form WindowsXP? I need to check if my CPU's temprature is too high from time to time espetually after using for a long time.

I think LucF already said WinXP doesn't do it.  MotherboardMonitor can put it on your taskbar.

Hello Johwood,

If you want to know you CPU temperature anytime at a glance, then I suggest that you purchase a hardware function panel / fan controller which fits into a spare 5" drive bay.  An example of this would be:
http://www.coolermaster.com/index.php?LT=english&Language_s=2&url_place=product&p_serial=ALD-V02&other_title=+ALD-V02+Aerogate%20II

There are many different brands by different manufactuers with different features, so you will need to shop around for one which suits you.  You also get a similar system which would fit a 3 1/2" drive bay.

The Coolermaster Aerogate uses a temperature probe which is connected with the CPU and displays the temperature for you on it's panel.  This would probably be the easiest method for your to monitor your CPU (as well as adjust any fans to increase cooling for your system).

Good luck,

Auriclus

To Callandor:

OK, I have just downloaded Everest, but where to find CPU's temperature?

by: LucFPosted on 2004-06-19 at 04:43:21ID: 11350725

You should find it at Computer => Sensors
If there aren't any temperatures listed there, means there are no sensors in your computer.

Yes, I found Sensors, but the temperatures are for hard disks not for CPU!!

by: LucFPosted on 2004-06-19 at 05:57:37ID: 11350917

That means you don't have a sensor for your processor, so you won't be able to view the temperature than. The only way to get it then is to get yourself a new motherboard that does have these sensors.
