A while ago, I bought my friend a 128mb flash drive memory stick for her birthday. I installed the Win 98 driver on my PC and she can use it on her Toshiba notebook (Win XP) and on my PC (Win 98 SE on a Pentium 4) to transfer data. There were no Win 98/Win XP compatibility problems.
Later, I bought an Apacer USB 2.0 1 gigabyte flash drive model HT202. I installed the Win 98SE driver that came with it and with some tweaking it was recognised with a removable drive icon when I clicked on "My Computer". It seemed to work because I copied and deleted a file in Win 98.
Then, my friend took my HT202 and copied picture files on it with her Toshiba notebook (using Win XP). When I connected it to my pentium 4 it wasn't recognised! I unistalled and reinstalled the driver with no luck. I even downloaded the Win 98SE driver from the Apacer website.
I tried it on my work PC which uses Windows 2000. The drive appeared but no files were on it and I couldn't copy anything onto it. When I clicked on "properties" it showed that 5 mb were used.
In my lunch hour from work, I took the HT202 back to the computer store thinking it was faulty. The technical person formatted the HT202 in XP using FAT32 format. Then he copied files and it worked!
I returned to work and found that the HT202 worked and I copied work files onto it to take home.
When I got home. It wouldn't work on my PC (Win 98SE) even when I installed and uninstalled and reinstalled the driver for Win 98SE from the CD which came with the HT202. There is no removable drive showing in "My Computer". Just the hard drives and CD drive and a mobile device icon that looks like a cell phone.
It is possible that the HT202 will only work if formatted in either Win 98SE or Win XP & 2000 but not all? I need to access the HT202 in Win 2000 on my PC at work to bring files home for my pentium 4 (Win 98SE). I don't want to have to install XP on my home PC because I heard the hard drives have to be formatted and that means tedious re-installation of all my files and software.
Is there a fix to make my pentium with Win 98SE recognise my HT202 which was formatted in Win XP???
I can't understand why my friend's 128mb USB drive works between XP and Win98SE and my HT202 won't. Is it because I originally set up the 128mb USB on Win 98? I don't recall formatting it in Win 98.
I hope someone can help.

Jim
