I've read through all the other similar topics and not yet discovered the solution.
This is my backup system that I've not really used for a while, I didn't have an HDD for it forever but I finally have a hand-me-down drive from my main computer that I wanted to install and get it working.
Basically the computer turns on, I can hear the hard drive spinning, CPU fan is spinning and the video card fan spins but nothing comes up on the screen, the monitor activity light goes back and forth from green to amber (which is what it does when it's not hooked up to anything) which indicates it's not receiving a signal whatsoever. No beeps from the speaker or anything. The monitor was also independently tested and works.
Motherboard is an ASUS P4T-E which unfortunately runs RDRAM.
First thing I checked was the memory, it is configured according to the mb owners manual with a 256mb RIMM occupying RIMMA1 and a C-RIMM occupying RIMMA2 and a 256mb RIMM occupying RIMMB1 and C-RIMM in RIMMB2.
I have also switched them around but unfortunately due to the nature of RDRAM I can't remove any of them and I really don't want to buy more of this expensive and incredibly obsolete memory.
Next I checked IDE cables, PINN1 is aligned properly on both channels and the floppy as well.
Video card was then checked - and checked - and checked. First I was using an old AGP TNT2 which is the newer 1.5/3.3 design that the motherboard accepts. I've also tested a PCI Voodoo 3 I had laying around to no avail and assumed both were probably bad, the current card in there is a Radeon 9200 PCI, which you guessed it, doesn't fix the problem.
At this point I realized a major oversight, the 12v provision on the motherboard was left empty, the ATX power supply I was using did not have the provision for it. It was also missing the optional 6 pin auxilary power which the motherboard manual specified was optional anyway.
I purchased an ANTEC 350W which I was sure would alleviate the problem but even after connecting everything the computer still refuses to post.
I isolated all hardware, removing anything unnecessary to post - everything except the motherboard connections from the power supply. Still nothing.
Any ideas?
