The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. CPU fried or what?

I have a server computer that uses a gaming case that I won. I had it sitting around doing nothing so I decided to turn it into a server. The computer works fine with Windows XP, 192mb of ram, Radeon 9000, 120GB hard drive, Athlon Thunderbird 1.33GHZ and the SY-k7vta pro motherbaord.

I ordered a new CPU heat sink and fan for my main computer and I put my old one on my server, but when I turned the server on, I got no display and when I put back my old one it was running fine. When I plug both in at the same time and use the old one on the CPU, it resets. I was using artic silver as a thermal paste on the CPU and I got thermal paste on the rectangular objects around the die. Is this bad? Could it have damaged the CPU at all?

I turned the computer on with the old heat sink now and it does not display, but it stays on. The fans are on and spinning, but no display. I am using my monitor from my main computer and I know the monitor works. I am sure that the other stuff should work too, but I am baffled to why it does not work now.
