Are you talking pc or tv DVD players?  What brands?  How did you burn them before?  Did you close the sessions?

We'll need some more specs to make a detailed analysis (sounded pretty professional, didn't it? ;-)

DVDs and CDs require lasers at different wavelengths - if the DVD player only has a laser for DVD, and not one for CD/CD-R/RW, there is pretty much nothing you can do to make it work, except keep trying different brands of CD-Rs until you run across one that reflects some of the DVD laser beam, and then it might work to a degree if you're lucky.

See http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#2.4.3

To my knowledge, most modern players are able to play CD-R/RWs. For a long list of over 4,000 DVD players and what they can and cannot play (as reported by users of those players), see http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDname=&Submit=Search&Search=Search&country=&orderby=Name

Look for your make and model, there may be useful comments of others who've tried the same thing.

Good luck.

I am talking about TV DVD player. The brand is Pioneer DV-505, bought a few years ago. Whenever I put a CD-R( music CDs burned), the disc tray would just come out after it failed to read the CD-R. Is there any way to make the player read the CD-R?

Trade it in for a newer model.
If it was a pc player you might be able to flash the drive.
Since its a tv player...   Trade it or sell it and buy newer one.

Did you look at the link Anton74 sent you?  Go straight to the page with your player at http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDname=Pioneer+DV-505&Submit=Search&Search=Search&country=&orderby=Name , and see for yourself that it says it isn't compatible with CD-R, only CD-RW...

tantw04,

As has already been pointed out, it seems your player was not designed to play CD-Rs - if the player spits the disc out, there is positively nothing you can do to make it read that particular disc, but you could copy or burn the contents on a CD-RW, which it can read, or experiment with specific brands of CD-Rs that seem to work for some people according to the comments on the DV-505: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=291&Search=Search&#comments

Some relevant bits from comments on that page:

- Only Fuji Film CD-Rs will play
- Very light blue or green CDRs may work. Dark blue, green or gold definitely do not.
- Gigastorage brand 80min. CDRs will play just fine. They support recording speeds of 2x - 12x.
- the brands are [pine 74min] [infiniti 74min] also had some [nugen media 80 min ] that play but the infiniti does not always play [I'm fairly sure that this comment is regarding CD-Rs, but I could be wrong, it's not worded overly clear]

Keep in mind that most of those comments are pretty dated now, and manufacturers are probably making higher speed CD-Rs than at the time of those postings, and those may not work the same, so your mileage may vary. You'll have to experiment a bit. If it's an option, it may be more painless to just stick with CD-RWs, which can be had fairly cheaply in large numbers on spindles now. The downside is that they generally don't record as fast, and may still be a bit more expensive than CD-Rs (I'm not quite sure of the current pricing).
