The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

PC that hangs alot!

Hello!

I'm struggling with a problem with my PC 500Mhz 128 Ram that used to work fine before a new installation of Win 2K. The problems is:

1) The computer hangs every 3:rd time at startup. It reaches to the big Windows logotype and the progress bar is full. After that it doesn't step into Windows. the last reading from the harddrive ism't happening. Just the big logo is showing.

2) When I'm working with the computer like with Photoshop that are pretty demanding it uses to hang after a couple of minutes. But I can, through a twisted TP, exchange files with the computer but it doesn't responds to any input at all. I can't press CTRL+ALT+DELETE or move the mouse. Caps lock doesn't respond either. At hanging point I have had the taskmanager showing. At the processes tab the 3 processes at the top sorted at CPU is:
System Idle Process        CPU:92 Mem:16K
Photoshp.exe             CPU:06 Mem:31,4K
CSRSS.exe             CPU:02 Mem:1,4K

The Mem Usage is: 134456K/367140K

I have updated the BIOS to the latest version and run servicepack 4 without any improvement.

Perhaps I just need to buy more Ram but It would be great to know before.

Is there any swap memory that I can increase and get the same result like buying more Ram?

I also have run defrag 4-5 times and it can't be defrag anymore.

I got som tip earlier about the hardware power, I guess that it is set to 2Volt like I can read in the bios setup, but is that possible to change?

Any suggestion is appricated!

Best regards
Fredrik
