The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Replaced Powersupply, now beeping and blank screen...

I built my computer about 2 years ago and it has worked without problem...until recently.  Out of the blue, after moving the computer to a new room, it wouldn't boot up, at all.  No sounds, no lights, nothing.  My first thought is blown power supply.  I order a new 425W powersupply (replace the old JustPc 425 with the newer version of the JustPC 425W) and install it and flip the switch in the back.  Mobo lights come on signifying power to it and I feel relieved...until I turn it on.  Upon turning it on, everything sounds normal, fan is working and hard drives seem to be spinning but nothing sounds like it is being accessed.  Also there is nothing on the monitor, just a blank black screen.  No video feed is being transmitted.  So I go through all the standard troubleshooting...take the heat sink off processor and clean it, check to make sure memory is in correctly, check video card to make sure it is in correctly, etc...  I turn it on and I get the Abit siren noise, bee dah bee dah bee dah....  To me this means the mobo is ok.  Is this correct?  Any suggestions b/c I get nothing on the screen and it doesn't sound like the HDs are doing anything either.  Could they be toast as well?

P4 2.4ghz
Abit BH7 mobo
1 stick 512MB PC2700
PNY GeForce4 MX440-SE Video Card

Any suggestions?  Have very little money...the $26 on the PS was expensive enough!!!
